Cardiff Music Women Exhibit & Workshops

  • Womanby Street Cardiff UK (map)

Cardiff Music Women is a 4-day community-led event on Womanby Street between 20th-23rd August 2018. Celebrating the contributions of women to our local popular/alternative music scene from the late 1950s to today, it will include exhibits, live music, talks, art, workshops, awareness raising and the creation of a digital archive. It aims to celebrate and learn about our musical past, and to empower more women/girls/non-binary people into our local music industry in future.

From household names like Shirley Bassey and Charlotte Church, to the untold
stories of record shop owners, labels, songwriters, DJs, sound engineers,
musicians, festival organisers – local women of 70-80s punk, Butetown Carnival, 90s
dance scene, reggae, folk, hip-hop, pop and more.

Full exhibit & event schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

We are currently seeking contributions for our exhibit - memorabilia/artefacts, music, photos, videos, artwork, stories and more. Please send us details of what you might like to contribute to (all items will be scanned and returned after the event - if you don't want to lend us the actual item we can photograph or scan it instead)

We are holding story-telling/memory-sharing events in Roath and Grangetown, where you can be filmed/recorded/interviewed (whichever you'd prefer) if you'd like to contribute any stories or memories for the exhibit and archive. You can also drop off exhibit items or bring them to be scanned at these events too. We'll be announcing dates shortly, they'll be at the end of July.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS - if you'd like to volunteer to help out with this event - such as researching, gathering information, interviewing people, collecting items, please email (some expenses can be covered if you're from a low income background and something is preventing you from participating eg travel/childcare costs)
